Bushlands being used as a dump

12 Mar, 2009 09:08 AM
TWENTY-two Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest resident whacked on the gloves and collected over 40 bags of rubbish on March 1 for Clean Up Australia Day.

Organised by the Hawks Nest Tea Gardens Progress Association, a variety of food packaging items, bottles, cans and plastic bags plus loose household goods and other large items were collected.

The volunteers were disappointed to find Hawks Nest’s natural bushland, beaches, riverfronts and recreation areas are still being used as local rubbish tips.

The Lions Club reported dumped TVs, computers at the Lions Lookout and rolls of carpet near the quarry.

The Progress Association thank all the volunteers that participated on the day, particularly as the majority were aged between 50 and 80 years old.

All those that registered had their names entered into a lucky draw and Diane Allan of Hawks Nest was the lucky winner of a $30 dinner voucher at the Tea Gardens Country Club restaurant.
