Residents of Hawks Nest are again fighting to keep developers from building on the land either side of Kingfisher Ave.
North Residential Pty Ltd has lodged an appeal with the NSW Land and Environment Court against the minister’s refusal of development applications for a residential subdivision and residential buildings at the site.
The company wants to develop the land by placing a number of two and three bedroom units on the site as well as an access road.
Local residents fought against the same company in 2004 when they were trying to get the application for development through Great Lakes Council.
In 2004 residents watched as a section of the land was cleared by the company.
This clearing caused many animals to lose their homes and be killed coming onto the main road.
At the time council squashed the application.
North Residential Pty Ltd has now taken the application to the NSW Land and Environment Court in the hope to have it approved.
Amended plans and additional information have been lodged with the court.
“If we don’t stop this they will keep developing. I don’t mind a small development but not a great monstrosity,” local resident Susie Owens said.
Flyers are being distributed urging residents to write to the NSW Department of Planning objecting to the proposed plan and signs have been strategically placed along Kingfisher Ave to get people thinking about what could happen to the area.
“If we don’t write the letters and let people know what is happening it will probably go through,” Mrs Owens said.
The amended proposal and additional information for the development application is on exhibition until February 25 at the Great Lakes Council District Office in Myall St Tea Gardens.
