THE Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Lioness Club again held its annual Australia Day Celebration at Moria Park, Hawks Nest.
The club has been giving out its own young citizen and senior citizen of the year awards to recognise the achievements of community members in the Tea Gardens Hawks Nest community. Stephen Howell was awarded Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Young Citizen of the year while Richard Armstrong was selected as the senior citizen of the year.
Lioness president Sandra Bell said Mr Howell was chosen for his commitment to the Hawks Nest Surf Life Saving Club.
"He has done a massive amount of volunteering there," she said.
He has also been volunteering at Tea Gardens Public School, teaching the children about surf awareness.
Mr Armstrong was selected for his contribution to the to the Myall Art and Craft Centre, Neighbour Aid and the Myall Dolphins.
"He is such a lovely gentleman," she said.
Mrs Bell said she was struck by how clean the community left the park and wished to extend a huge thank you to everyone who came.
"Thank you for the pride you all showed in your local park which made the clean up job so much easier," she said.
Mrs Bell said the races, thong throwing and doughnut competitions were particularly popular among the children.
"It was a very successful day," she said.
