SIX staff members of Tea Gardens Hardware are going under the clippers and shaving their heads in support of the Leukaemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave.
Held annually, over 100,000 people across the country will take part in the event and shave or colour their hair on March 15 - 17 to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Every dollar raised during the World's Greatest Shave will help patients and families living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders.
The World's Greatest Shave is one of Australia's biggest fundraising events and this year, Tea Gardens Hardware decided to get involved.
They will hold their event outside the hardware store on Myall St Tea Gardens this Saturday, with a sausage sizzle and the chance to see staff 'take it all off!'
Members of the community are asked to come along and support this fantastic cause by donating a gold coin.
They can even decide to get clipped themselves, as Jayne from Jayne's Hair and Beauty Tea Gardens has offered to volunteer her time and expertise to do the shaving free of charge.
For those of you who want to help but aren't brave enough to shave, Jayne will also be doing crazy colouring on the day, with Tea Gardens Hardware staff member Joanna Smith happily taking this option and going bright green – in the spirit of St Patrick's Day.
The local event will begin at 11am with a sausage sizzle. Mark from Myall Gourmet Meats is kindly donating the sausages and shaving will begin at 1pm.
This is the first year Tea Gardens Hardware has run a World's Greatest Shave event and it would be great if the community showed their support.
Tea Gardens Hardware staff member, Mark Woolard, brought the idea to the table after seeing the advertisements for the event on television.
"We support the Make a Wish Foundation every year so I thought this would also be a great cause to support," Mr Woolard said.
Owner of Tea Gardens Hardware, David Bright, couldn't agree more and explained that there were quite a few members of our local community who have been fighting cancer, including an acquaintance of his who has recently found out that their young child has Leukaemia.
"Tea Gardens Hardware is very community minded and this is another great cause we are happy to get behind," Mr Bright said.
The aim of the day is to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation and Tea Gardens Hardware are aiming to raise at least $2,000 for the worthy cause.
Mr Woolard said that some customers have already seen the World's Greatest Shave sign in the window and donated $20 or $50 out of their own pocket for the Leukaemia Foundation.
"The event hasn't even taken place yet and already people from the community are reaching out to help," he said.
Local businesses, tradesmen, residents and visitors are invited to lend their support. If anyone would like to donate; ring or drop in to see the staff at Tea Gardens Hardware.
Your involvement in the World's Greatest Shave will enable the Leukaemia Foundation to continue to support patients and families living with leukaemia.
So go on...be brave and shave!
