CLASSIC, vintage, sports, high performance, historic and muscle cars - you name it they came in their droves to Hawks Nest over the weekend for Motorfest 2009.
Organisers have announced the weekend event was their most successful yet, attracting 315 cars and motorcycles from 40 car clubs across the country.
Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Motor Club secretary, Juergen Seil, said the event was a huge success.
“It was perfect, the best ever. We had the highest number of entries, the biggest takings in respect to drink sales, the Lion’s Club were busy all day with their barbeque and the Red Cross Ladies sold out.”
Mr Seil said, judging from gold coin donations and barbeque and drinks sales, more than 2000 people attended the event.
It’s seventh year running, Motorfest was kicked off by Cr Len Roberts, local MP Craig Baumann and Rear Admiral Peter Sinclair.
Members of the Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Motor Club were more than happy to display their 52 vehicles to admiring visitors with 20 unique trophies presented with some clubs already reserving their parking spots for nest year’s event.
“Everyone said they’re coming again. Many people said it was the best event they’ve been to,” said Mr Seil. A display area was sectioned off for unique vehicles at this year’s event which included a 1923 Rolls Royce, a 1935 Crossly, an early TC MG, a 1926 Austin 7, a Morris Cooper S celebrating 50 year of the mini and a 2007 VW Golf GTI Diesel plus a 2008 Audi R8 racing car.
The NRMA returned with their historic display of photos, trophies and their oldest patrol vehicles, vans and motorcycles. The Newcastle Army Band was on hand to rally the troops meanwhile the Tea Gardens Public School Band got the crowd going with some familiar songs.
The local Fire Bridade, Ambulance Service and Surf Lifesaving Club kept visitors informed with the displays while the Lions Club and Red Cross ladies kept their stomachs full with their sausage sizzle and cake stalls.
Organisers of the event thank local council staff who provided rubbish bins, bunting and much needed safety markers.
