Bombah Point Ferry re-opens

30 Jan, 2007 03:43 PM
BOMBAH Point Ferry in Myall Lakes National Park has been re-opened.

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) acting Hunter Region manager, Terry Evans, said the ferry was temporarily closed due to the low level of water in the Bombah Broadwater.

"NPWS staff worked very quickly to modify the ferry so that it can continue to be used safely by park visitors," Mr Evans said.

The modifications involved adjusting the ramp setting for low water levels.

"While the ferry is once again safely operational, we will keep monitoring the situation and may make further adjustments if water levels continue to decrease.

"It is normal for water levels in the lakes to be lower at this time of the year, especially while we are experiencing drier and warmer weather conditions, however a lack of run-off feeding into the lake system from the Myall River catchment and continuous strong north easterly winds pushing water out has contributed to the unusually lower water levels," he said.

Mr Evans welcomed the news that the Bombah Point Ferry did not cause disruption to park visitors over the Australia Day long weekend.

During the school holidays, the Bombah Point Ferry operates every half hour from 8am until 6pm.
