Building and construction

25 Jun, 2008 03:24 PM
CONSTRUCTION sites have sat unattended for the past fortnight as builders wait for the weather to ease.

With work stopped because of the wet and internal jobs almost completed, builders are at a loss.

“The rain during the past fortnight is starting to cause issues all around,” Lambert Building manager Geoff Lambert said.

Mr Lambert has been a member of the Master Builder’s Association for the past 30 years.

“It’s not just the days you lose, it’s also how far it puts you back with the job.”

Because of the delays something will then miss out when the work can be started again.

“When it rains one day you generally lose two days,”

And the builders aren’t the only ones having trouble with the weather.

Their clients are also suffering.

One Hawks Nest woman who didn’t wish to be named told the Nota it had been three weeks since any work had been done on her extensions.

“Everything has come to a standstill,” she said.

The extensions were up to the roofing process before the rain started.

“If the rain hadn’t come we would only have the interior to do now.”

While the rain is seen as a hindrance builders will still be stuck for work for days after it goes away during the drying out period.

Because of the sand base in Tea Gardens Hawks Nest, the drying period is usually rather quick.

Since the start of June Tea Gardens Hawks Nest has had 30cm of rain.
