Bulahdelah Bass Bash a great success

21 Feb, 2006 12:16 PM
THE Bulahdelah Fishing Club's twelfth annual Bass Bash fishing competition was held recently on the Myall River.

This year's event proved to be hugely popular with 245 anglers signing on to try their luck, this number breaking the record of last year's Bass Bash.

Along with the seniors, there were scores of juniors signing on with plenty of fish being caught by the kids.

The popular "Top Line Roofing Eel Classic" for juniors once again proved popular, with the fairer sex showing the boys how to catch those slippery Eels.

First in the event went to the "Griffis Girl's", a winning team consisting of Chloe, Alisha and Tiffany Griffis, with an Eel weighing 4.52kgs. Second place went to Thomas Evans from Tea Gardens, followed by Lewis Dorney, Justin Robards, Dyean Revell and Luke Benson filling the minor places

The prize for the biggest Mullet for the juniors went to Dylan Powick, with a fish of 800 grams, with second place going to Bailey Shultz.

The biggest Bass for a junior this year went to Tea Gardens local, Josh Fidden, with a nice Bass weighing 870grams, second in the juniors went to Jessica Hoban, Jessica's fish weighing 700grams, with third place being tied between Kyle Berry and Tye Barry, their fish each weighing 670 grams.

A local Bulahdelah junior took out this year's encouragement award. Brad Keaton fished hard all weekend and thoroughly deserved his prize.

Well done to all the kids who participated this year, it's great to see the kids outside and having fun on the water.

The seniors were once again hotly contested, with the lead in each fish species constantly changing hands.

The biggest mullet for the seniors went to Bulahdelah Club member, Mick Sackely, using a borrowed rod.

Mick's Mullet topped the scales at 1.00kg neat, with Danial Nassif taking the runner up prize.

The biggest Bream caught for the bash was a 780gram fish weighed in by Chris Ehlefedt, with John "Bushy" Carrol coming in second place with a 750gram Bream.

Now for the main event: The winner of the seniors in the Bash Bass for 2006 went to Jon Foote with a corker of a Bass that also took out the biggest Bass caught overall. Jon's fish weighed a very healthy 1.49kg. Second place went to Garry Magennis with a fish of 1.26kg and third for the seniors went to Peter Worth with a 1.2kg Bass.

Congratulations to all the winners and to everyone who completed, making it a top weekend.

Another major draw card for the weekend was the Duck Dash race, with the winner of the race going to Betty Priddis's duck. Second place was Bailey Shultz and third prize went to Jason Turnbull. The winning business duck went to GME Garmin, who also sponsored prizes in the Bass Bash.

Everyone at the Bulahdelah Fishing Club would like to thank the community for getting behind this great event; thanks also go to the Chamber of Commerce and the Westpac Helicopter for the Duck Dash.

The Fishing Club would also like to thank all the local and out of town sponsor's for their generosity in providing the much needed support in this event.

Finally, a big thank you to the members of the Fishing Club for their hard work, time and effort, without these people this weekend wouldn't happen.

On a finishing note, I would like to welcome Thomas Evans and Tom Allen to the "Stunned Mullet Club"; both boys fell out of boats on the weekend, thanks for the laugh kids. Good fishing.
