A PLANNING proposal to give Bulahdelah an "economic boost" by way of rezoning 140 hectares of nearby rural land is now on exhibition.
The site, approximately 1.5 kilometres north of the Bulahdelah town centre, located close to the golf course and the approved tourist facility and brewery was earmarked as a potential growth area within the Mid Coast Regional Strategy.
Under the proposal the land will be zoned 2(a) Low Density Residential to allow for about 200 residential lots.
The remaining 103 hectares includes Bulahdelah Mountain and is proposed for rezoning to 7(a1) Environmental Protection.
Great Lakes Council's manager of strategic planning Roger Busby described the rezoning as an opportunity for new housing opportunities and employment.
"The zoning of much of the land to environmental protection will also introduce balance by ensuring that land of high ecological and cultural value is protected," he said.
Great Lakes residents are invited to comment on the planning proposal which is available for viewing on the council's website, at the Rural Transaction Centre, Stroud St Bulahdelah and at the council's Forster and Tea Gardens offices. The exhibition period ends on March 9.
