THE recent university offers came as a welcome relief to Bulahdelah Central School student Emily Tischner who was accepted into her first choice of architecture at the University of Newcastle.
"I'd already planned to go to TAFE to do the same course because I thought my mark wouldn't get me in," she said.
"Then I found out I got in and I was very excited."
Miss Tischner said her four extra points for being a rural student probably gave her the boost she needed to reach the cut off point that allowed her to get into her course. She said she planned to stay in Bulahdelah and car pool to the university with friends.
Laura Waters on the other hand is in the process of house hunting in Jesmond, after the news that she was accepted into a double degree of science and art at the University of Newcastle.
"I wasn't confident I was going to get in," she said. The news came as both a "surprise and a relief".
