MOTOR cars and racing continues to be a popular topic among Myall Coast residents and just one week after Motorfest car enthusiasts are set to pick up the pace with the Bulahdelah Hill Climb.
With 35 entrants so far, organisers are expecting that number to jump to around 50 by the end of the week.
“Entrants are coming from all around NSW, last year’s champion who’ll be coming again this year, is coming from Mudgee, there’ll be others from Canberra, Wollongong and all around,” said clerk of the course, Ross Jones.
With the existing field promising some fast pace action an assortment of vehicles from purpose built to clubman types as well as a few very quick sports sedans and a fully restored Porsche 911 will go up against a Lotus Exige.
One not to be missed is a Lola formula three open wheeler driven by last year’s winner Douglas Barry.
In its second year running the event, the Myall Lakes Motorsports Club has been awarded a NSW state championship round to be held in September.
“It’s probably the fastest track outside of the Bathurst’s mountain straight and it’s a lot wider than most tracks. It has three lanes in some sections; I think the top line speed was 196km/h,” said Jones.
When asked if he was expecting a large crowd Jones said he can never predict how many people will turn out.
“That’s one thing we can’t pin point, people usually decide on the day if it’s sunny they decide to have a day out if not they might stay home. But I’m sure the crowds will continue to grow as the event builds a name.”
The Bulahdelah Hill Climb is on this Sunday, March 29 on Wootton Way, the Old Pacific Highway from 9am.
Tickets are $3 or $5 for a family, children under 12 are free and there will be barbeques and refreshments available at the finish line and pits.
