Business boom

Tea Gardens Engineering (TGE) could soon be a major player on the global export market.

TGE has formed an alliance with the head of former design and manufacturing company Flowmat, Jim McDonnell.

Mr McDonnell retired to Tea Gardens a number of years ago, but has since received interest from potential clients wanting to purchase a number of Flowmat's famed 'pallet dispensers'.

The fully automatic dispensers allow up to 40 pallet's to be stacked on top of one another.

They then ‘spit-out' an individual pallet, making it easy for fork-lifts to transport the crate.

While Mr McDonnell still holds the design rights for the dispensers, he had sold off the manufacturing side of the business a number of years ago and needed an engineering company to produce the giant structures, enter TGE.

"I looked into a number of engineering firms and felt my best bet was TGE,' he said.

"They've got an ethic I like, a good dedication to their work."

TGE is owned and operated by Steve Ellicott and employs a number of local fabricator's.

Mr McDonnell praised TGE for their professionalism in building the dispensers but said it was a shame further opportunities for local engineering businesses were not available.

"There is an opportunity for skilled trades people to come to this area, it's something that I've noticed is missing," he said.

"But to bring people of that skill to an area, you've got to be able to offer them something in return."

Over a period of a couple of months TGE built three dispensers, which will now be transported to their new home in Brisbane.

The dispensers are extremely popular in the grocery and liquor industry and have been exported to locations in the USA, Canada and the United Kingdom.
