Centre celebrates 18th year

25 Jun, 2008 03:26 PM
AFTER a successful and active year the Myall Art and Craft Centre’s 18th annual general meeting was held on June 14, with an excellent turn up of members despite the miserable day.

Norma Seggie accepted the position of president for a second term with Di Taylor continuing as vice president.

The position of secretary has been accepted by Gail Ferris while Neryl Grehan will maintain the position of treasurer and Lyn Reid will hold the public officer title.

Roster officer will still be Margaret Fraser and Leigh Allen continues as publicity officer.

The committee of new faces, Jann Worland, Pam Gilchrist, Winsome Dorrington, Carolyn Morrison and Heidi Reid, promises to provide for an interesting year.

A 15 year membership award was presented to Shirley Gillette, while badges for 10 years of service were awarded to Pam Eades, Desley Voigt, Margaret German, Norma Seggie, Lyn Reid, Val Gearing and Ann Shepherd.

The outgoing committee must be thanked for their work in continuing to manage the centre so well and for making it such an important part of the area.

The June monthly meeting followed the annual general meeting with several particular items being raised.

There is now a recorder on the telephone that will make contact easier.

The combined CTC, lionesses and art and craft centre raffle has a little over a month to run.

This raffle is to support the Mater Hospital medical ward.

The Myall Coast is in the feeder area of the hospital so their facilities could have direct impact on us.

One of their serious needs at the moment is the lack of scales that can cater for wheelchairs so that is what this raffle is intent on providing.

It will be drawn on July 25, at 6.30pm with a particularly interesting function, starting at 5.30pm to which all members, family and friends are invited. Another matter is the need for help in manning the shop. The shop is the main source of finance for the centre and it can only be run with the generosity of 62 members giving three hours of their time once a month.

While many of our more than 200 member’s give of their time willingly and graciously, it is proving very difficult to fill every slot.

For the first time in 18 years the only alternative is to close the shop when it cannot be attended. If it is possible to assist your centre in this way please contact Margaret Fraser on 4997 5309 and make her life much easier.

Our next meeting will be on Saturday, July 12, at 1.30pm
