Chadban moves on from Hunter Councils

16 Apr, 2009 11:55 AM
FORMER Great Lakes mayor John Chadban has formally handed over the leadership of Hunter Councils to Gloucester mayor Julie Lyford.

Mr Chadban, who retired before the 2008 local government election, chaired the conglomerate of 12 councils for two years.

Current Great Lakes Mayor Jan McWilliams congratulated the new chair.

“I congratulate Cr Lyford on her appointment and look forward to our collaboration. I’m sure her extensive experience and qualities will be a great benefit to the board and to its member councils.”

The board sets the strategic agenda for many business and professional activities overseen by the organisation, which includes Greater Taree, Port Stephens and Newcastle councils.

“We’ve achieved great savings over the years through sharing our professional expertise and collaborating on projects,” Cr McWilliams said.

“Our staff and councillors have benefited from an extensive range of forums on myriad topics.”

The organisation also includes an advisory committee of council general managers.
