DEVELOPMENTS at the Hawks Nest Retirement Home, the Myall Lodge, are nearing completion despite rough weather that battered the coast in the past weeks.
The new section of the building, which is being connected to the already existing building, will offer 14 extra beds for new residents, a new kitchen, visiting room, staff room and a lounge area.
It is expected to be completed in October.
The new amenities will mean residents needing more care will be able to stay in the Lodge for longer as more staff will be placed at the facility.
Currently there are only nine permanent rooms for residents and one respite room.
The Lodge allows residents to live independently while providing help with laundry, cleaning and meals.
"We encourage residents to be independent," manager Christine Makila said.
"We have one resident who walks downtown every day."
