Community saves Aliceton Reserve

01 Nov, 2006 11:44 AM
LABOR candidate for Port Stephens Aaron Beasley has welcomed Port Stephens Council's decision last night to abandon plans for the sale of Aliceton Reserve at Karuah.

Mr Beasley has opposed the sale of the land since hearing the concerns of local residents and the Karuah Progress Association.

"This is a real win for our community, who have worked hard to keep their open space and community land," Mr Beasley said after hearing the decision.

Mr Beasley is one of 450 signatories to the Progress Association's petition to Port Stephens Council calling for the land to remain undeveloped.

"I believe, as many local residents do, that it would be wrong to sell this important land to developers."

"It is clear that council are changing direction on development. However, there are still a number of concerns that I and other residents have about development in Port Stephens. That is why I will continue campaigning to retain open space in Port Stephens.
