Councillors keep quiet about agenda

18 Jun, 2008 09:21 AM
A YES, a no and a no comment were the answers given to the Nota when asking Tea Gardens Hawks Nest based councillors if they would be running in the upcoming local government elections.

Councillor Len Roberts confirmed he was running but remained tight-lipped about his agenda while councillor Carol McCaskie wouldn’t comment.

Ruled out of this year’s election is councillor Col Cookson.

“Four and a half years has been long enough,” Cr Cookson said.

Cr Cookson will be retiring from council to continue managing the newsagency in Tea Gardens.

During the election he said he would offer his full support and advice to Cr Roberts and Cr McCaskie if they were running.

“I am confident in the well managed growth of the shire and Tea Gardens Hawks Nest,” Cr Cookson said.

The election will reduce the number of councillors from 12 members to 9.

“I am currently looking at how to achieve the best result for this area,” Cr Roberts said.

Councillors Linda Gill, John Stephens and Jan McWilliams have also confirmed they would also be running in the election.

The local government election will be held on September 13.
