FOR over 20 years the North Arm Cove ccommunity has wanted a public boat ramp.
Unfortunately most identified areas belonging to the council have not been suitable. The only area that may be suitable is Heros Bay. In order to at least have a proposal ready for future funding council agreed to the investigation of a possible boat ramp at Heros Bay Reserve. This will determine once and for all whether Heros Bay is suitable and there will be a full round of community consultations. Such an investigation does not preclude council or the community from examining other sites if the opportunity arises particularly with any future private development proposals.
The controversial coal-seam gas investigation process has finally come to Great Lakes.
In February this year the council was made aware of the possibility of preliminary investigations occurring in our shire near Gloucester.
However, it was only at the last meeting that council was made aware of proposed investigations at Bulahdelah. Council has been concerned for some time and along with other councils in the Hunter expressed its extreme concern to government.
Council is concerned regarding impact on our water quality and supply. A report will be presented to council explaining the legal ramifications and what actions council can take. All ratepayers should be aware of their rights if contacted by companies wanting to investigate their land.
