WHEN talking with local business owners and wandering around town, it is obvious that a number of businesses in Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens do it tough in the winter months.
When there's a downturn of tourists and people are reluctant to go out in the cold weather, some businesses are hit really hard during this time.
Also, businesses that traditionally rely on tourists for the major part of their business tend to struggle during quiet times.
Winter also sees a downturn of sales and business due to the seasonal conditions, and affects such things as boating, lawn mowing, accommodation, ice cream sales, food, restaurants, trades, to name just a few. In fact most local businesses suffer during winter.
The Myall Waterways Chamber of Commerce has undertaken to put this issue on the table for discussion and to look at different options available to improve the plight of struggling business owners, and to maximise their business opportunities, during the winter months
Local business coach and vice president of the chamber, Allan Wilson wishes to invite business and trades people from this area to a forum to help address this major problem which confronts local businesses every year during the off season.
According to Allan, some businesses are greatly affected, with sales down by well over 50 per cent during winter.
Allan is aware that some business people are poorly prepared for the downturn in business and do not do anything differently during these difficult times.
The forum will be about 'maximising business opportunities in winter' and will be held at 6pm on Monday August 21 at a venue to be decided.
If interested please contact Allan Wilson on 4997 1352 to book your seat.
It is expected that a small fee of $10 to cover costs and refreshments will be charged.
