RESIDENTS of Tea Gardens-Hawks Nest have until the end of the month to comment on a revised draft housing strategy for the area.
The strategy was first exhibited late last year. Submissions and comments by residents during the period were discussed at a workshop of Great Lakes Council and incorporated into the second draft, which went on public display at the start of the month.
This was discussed at a public meeting last week at which council representatives were present along with around 40 residents.
The Director of Planning, Glenn Handford, said that the second draft of the housing strategy included a medium density zone to be established along Marine Drive starting at the swimming pool.
Mr Handford said that there was a mixed response to the draft from people who attended the meeting.
The President of the Progress Association, Christian Patteson said the community's general reaction was that the second draft was much better than the original but there was concern about the 2B medium density zoning for Marine Drive.
"Ninety per cent of people would be against that.
"Almost all of Tea Gardens was to be 2B zoning except for the waterfront area but it seems like they have swapped places."
Mr Patteson said that there were many other things in the draft which were positive but there was some slight concern that not enough had been done in the existing 2A residential zone to ensure that appropriate development would happen in the future.
