STROUD farmers have called on Duralie Coal to pay for independent environmental monitoring following the proposed expansion of its nearby mine.
In a submission to the Planning Department the Stroud branch of the NSW Farmers Federation, have recommended the company pay $20,000 a year to ensure surrounding farming areas are safe for production.
The group’s submission labelled the funding as part of a necessary social contract with the community. The department will now consider two modification applications and one major project application for the mine. The major project application proposes an expansion of the mining area and seeks to discharge mine water into Mammy Johnsons River.
