Federal Roads Minister visits Myall Way turnoff

26 Sep, 2006 11:18 AM
THE Federal Minister for Roads, Local Government & Territories, Jim Lloyd, visited the Paterson electorate last Friday.

During his visit he met with the Myall Way Taskforce and Member for Paterson, Bob Baldwin, at the corner of the Pacific Highway and Myall Way turnoff to discuss the need for a flyover at this intersection.

Mr Baldwin said he fully supported the community's call for a flyover to be built at the Myall Way intersection to Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens, along the Pacific Highway.

"To construct a flyover in 10 to 15 years time will add millions of dollars to this project and I do not support the current construction of turning lanes."

Mr Baldwin said he shared the community's concerns about the dangers posed to motorists who must turn on and off the highway, with traffic going at 110km in either direction.

"The population of Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens is far greater than the population of Karuah, which has flyovers at both the southern and northern ends of the community, plus at peak holiday periods there is an enormous amount of traffic going to this popular holiday spot.

"We are sick and tired of the State Government refusing to prioritise this work and hiding behind bureaucratic RTA reports that do not support a flyover," Mr Baldwin said.
