Plans for a flyover at the Myall Way/Pacific Highway intersection seem all but dead.
Overpass Task Force chair Patricia Michell conceded that there was little to be done after the release of the State Budget last week confirmed there would be no funding for a Myall Way flyover.
"At the moment I don't see how we can continue to be as active," she said.
"I don't see it's going to do much good.
"Obviously the State Government has higher priorities at the moment."
While NSW Government officials had already stated they would not provide funds for the flyover, the release of the Budget was the final nail in the coffin for the group.
Just two months ago there were scenes of elation from the Taskforce and residents of Tea Gardens Hawks Nest when the Prime Minister announced $10 million in Federal Government funding towards a flyover.
That funding was later confirmed in the Federal Budget, but only on the proviso the State equaled the amount put forward by the Commonwealth. Any hopes of that were dashed last month when NSW Roads Minister Eric Roozendaal said the State was not going to come to the party.
"We'll sit down and scratch our heads as to where we are going to head next," Ms Michell said.
"We're very disappointed. I'm not sure what we can do.
"I just hope and pray we don't have an accident there."
Ms Michell said the State Government had chosen to ignore overwhelming support for such a project.
"We'll keep up the fight but we really have no avenue to go further other than community participation and that's meant nothing to the State in the past," she said.
"At this stage a flyover would cost around $16 million. The Federal Government has already provided over 50 per cent of that cost and the State is still saying no, so obviously they have different priorities."
