Foreshore revamp for spring

27 Aug, 2009 01:45 PM
TEA Gardens foreshore will be a torn up strip of dirt and dozers for the next three weeks as construction begins on its new cycleway.

Under the Rudd Government’s small projects initiative donated earlier this year, $100,000 will go towards the installation of a cycleway from the public wharf to the police station.

Great Lakes Council’s manager for parks and gardens David Bortfeld said the pathway will be extended as long as funding allows, which is hoped to reach the boat ramp/ car park adjacent to the police station

The 2.5m wide cycleway will be an extension of the existing pavement style pathway from the public wharf to the fire station.

Other works funded under the Rudd Government initiative include $65,000 for the installation of tennis courts at North Arm Cove, $60,000 for the design and construction of a disabled toilet and kitchen upgrade to the Hawks Nest Community Centre and $30,000 to replace picnic benches at Bennett’s Beach.

The cycleway is expected to be complete in three weeks.
