Funding for skate park being sought

29 Aug, 2006 11:40 AM
GRANTS totalling more than $185,000 are being sought by Great Lakes Council to offset the $345,800 cost of providing recreational facilities in the shire.

The works include the provision of skate parks at Tea Gardens and Nabiac, a swimming platform at Coomba Park, the reconstruction work on boat ramps at Riverview Road Failford and Little Street Forster and the installation of a rock groyne and establishment of a safe swimming area at the Tea Gardens regional boat ramp.

The most expensive project is the Tea Gardens ramp at $120,000. The Tea Gardens skate park will cost $116,215.

The council is seeking the money from the Sport and Recreation Capital Assistance Grants Scheme and the Maritime Improvement Program.

It recently received grants from the Catchments Management Authority Hunter Rivers for the full $40,000 cost of removing Bitou Bush and regeneration works at Boomerang, Blueys and Cellito Beaches and aerial spraying from Pilot Hill to Bennetts Headland to rid the area of Bitou and other weeds.
