Golfing and bowling for charity

07 Mar, 2006 11:10 AM
THE Secretary/Manager of Tea Gardens Country Club, Noel Jackson, advised that a field of 114 players enjoyed another wonderful day of sport and fun on Friday, February 24, with reports of an eagle in the golf and some great shots in the bowls.

"Naturally there were some pretty awful displays but no one cares, and that's all part of the day," explained Mr Jackson.

"It really is a great day and all of the players had big smiles on their dials.

"As a result, we were able to raise over $2,400 for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service," he said.

"It is heartening to see that once again the people of our community showed their big hearts in supporting the day.

"Everyone won at least one prize, all of which had been donated, and once again our two local butchers and the fish co-op very generously donated terrific trays for prizes for the raffle," added Mr Jackson.

Rusty Sargeant, President of the Bulahdelah Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service Support Group, came along with a big batch of prizes to use, and then, much to the delight of the others, took a place in a bowls team.

Rusty spoke at the prize presentations, telling of the service's need for financial assistance from days such as this to keep the choppers in the air, and thanked everyone for taking part.

Rusty also added one of her sticky date puddings to the raffle prizes.

It was with great pleasure that the President of the Country Club, Bill Bridges, and the President of the Golf Club, Martin Jones, presented Rusty with a cheque for the proceeds of the day.

During the formal part of the proceedings, Mr Jackson asked the players if they had enjoyed the day and the reply was a resounding "YES", and it can be taken that another day will be organised later in the year.
