A STRONG dedication to her community has seen Lyn Reid of Hawks Nest honoured as Great Lake's Citizen of the Year at the Australia Day ceremony held in Forster.
Mrs Reid said the announcement came as a "nice surprise" but she believed the award not only recognised her, but helped recognise all the volunteers in the Tea Gardens Hawks Nest area.
"I don't do it all on my own," she said.
"Everywhere you go there is a volunteer doing something and for me this award highlights that."
Mrs Reid was picked from a field of worthy contenders for achievements such as establishing the Tea Gardens Community Technology Centre where she has been a continuous member and has served many roles.
She also took major responsibility for the redevelopment of the Gateway to the Myall Coast brochure and has had a strong involvement with the Lioness Club.
Her work also stretches to the Myall Art and Craft Centre where she has served as vice president, president and public officer. In fact, she described one of her most rewarding experiences as getting the third extension for the centre in 2004 which saw the arrival of a wood turning and mosaics area.
"It was my first big job in town," she said.
