The Myall Lakes Motor Sports club will be the sole host of the September hill climb on the old pacific highway just north of Bulahdelah.

Based in Tea Gardens the club decided to run the hill climb after it was abandoned two years ago.

“It wasn’t viable for West Lakes to run it,” Myall Lakes Motor Sports club secretary and clerk of course Ross Jones said.

“But it is noted as one of the best hill climb tracks in the state; we are running it not for profit,” Mr Jones said.

The club has had a lot of general interest from spectators and competitors with people expected to come from all over NSW to compete.

Myall Lakes Motor Sports is holding the event over a weekend with a show and shine, stalls and entertainment on Saturday, September 20, before the hill climb on Sunday.

The 1.15km course will see cars racing against the clock in a single car speed event.

With police, Confederation of Australian Motor Sport and a five year council approval the club are now looking for volunteers and store holders.

“We need volunteers mainly for the Sunday.

“They are needed to make sure the spectators stay in the required areas,” Mr Jones said.

Once the event is off the ground the club hopes to be able to hold two events a year.

The first will be for novice entrants while the second will be the NSW state championships.

“The NSW people want it back and we are looking at March next year for the state championships,” Mr Jones said.

A wide variety of cars will be on show during the show and shine and hill climb the next day.

“It’s a real mixed bag; that is the best part of it,” Mr Jones said.
