Investigation after cyclist hit by car at Hawks Nest

POLICE have launched an investigation after a cyclist was hit at Hawks Nest on Friday, allegedly by a woman who was seven times over the legal blood-alcohol limit.

Police said they received several calls about a female driving recklessly on Mungo Brush Road about 4pm. Officers patrolled the area several times but were unable to locate the woman. Police said soon after they received a call about a car hitting a cyclist. Police said strangers removed the keys from the driver's ignition to stop her fleeing the scene. She was breath tested at the scene where she allegedly blew a reading of 0.348. The cyclist suffered minor injuries. According to police the woman then began having convulsions and was conveyed to the Mater Hospital where mandatory blood tests were taken. Police are still waiting on the results.
