Jane steps on board our conservatorium

12 Aug, 2010 12:56 PM
INTERNATIONALLY-RENOWNED Australian flautist Jane Rutter has been announced as the patron of the Conservatorium Mid North Coast (CMNC).

Jane Rutter is one of Australia’s most brilliant and versatile musicians.

She is one of the few classical flautists in the world with the ability to cross over into jazz and pop. She has performed in the UK, Europe, USA, South-East Asia, the South Pacific, South America and China. Since 1990, she has been a household name in Australia, appearing on every major television show.

Jane studied with Michael Scott at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and then with Alain Marion and Jean-Pierre Rampal in Paris. After this she returned to Australia to lecture in flute and chamber music at the Sydney Conservatorium.

Michael Scott was Head of Woodwind at Sydney Conservatorium when he was teaching Jane.

Now, as Project Manager for CMNC, Michael is charged with bringing the Conservatorium to fully operational status.

“As Jane’s former flute teacher I have watched with great delight over the years as her career has unfolded in such a brilliant and unique style. I look forward with much pleasure to working with her in the role which she has generously accepted, as Patron of Conservatorium Mid North Coast,” Mr Scott said.

Jane has performed many times at the Sydney Opera House, toured extensively, has widely performed her one woman show Tutti Flutti, played at the 1999 National Flute Convention in Atlanta, USA and in 2000 was international guest artist at the International Flute Festival, Brazil.

In 2005 Jane was the Patron of the Australian International Flute Convention.

She has also presented on Channel Nine’s Getaway, winning a Peoples’ Choice award, and has received critical acclaim as a composer, on her album, Blo, where she collaborated with Oscar nominee David Hirshfelder. She played the role of Titania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Karnak Playhouse.

“I was thrilled to be invited to be Patron of this emerging conservatorium,” Jane said.

“I very much look forward to visiting the Mid North Coast in the near future”.

Jane appears as guest soloist with many prominent artists across different styles.

“Jane is an established artist with ABC Classics and has recorded twelve solo albums, all of which have been best sellers,” Chair of CMNC Leigh Vaughan said. “To have a wonderful Australian artist of such international standing, is a great coup for CMNC and a credit to Michael Scott’s musical integrity and organisational skills that Jane would agree to join us”.
