A SHORTFALL of more than $118,000 in funding for Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest Skate Park has led Great Lakes Council to investigate further sources of funding to complete the project.
Council threw its support behind the skate park once again at last week's council meeting, but raised concern over a lack of funding for the project.
Council has already allocated $50,000 toward the establishment of the facility, of which $40,379 remains.
However, a total of $158,915 is required to complete works at the skate park.
This incorporates site preparation ($10,000), construction of the slab ($48,000), purchase of the skate park units ($90,915), placement of units, construction of a carpark ($10,000), and in kind contributions. Council's parks and recreation services manager David Bortfeld stressed that there was an immediate need to secure in kind contributions for the skate park (such as concrete for the slab) if the project was to proceed.
"The Skate Park Committee has secured all the necessary concrete for the slab," Mr Bortfeld said.
"This commitment was made some time back and as this project continues issues may arise with securing this contribution.
"Consequently, it is believed a decision on the future of the project must be made as soon as possible."
Mr Bortfeld admitted that there had been a long and drawn out build up to the project.
