PART of Hawks Nest Golf Club land may be rezoned to allow the development of medium density housing and a redesign and possible extension of the course.
The club recently called for expressions of interest for the development or sale of its freehold land in Sanderling Avenue at Hawks Nest, which forms part of the golf course site adjacent to the existing village of Hawks Nest.
The club has named Crownland Developments as the preferred tender for rezoning of the site.
Crownland's rezoning request to Great Lakes Council said that development of the golf course would offer the opportunity to contribute significantly to the social and economic sustainability of both the golf course and the Hawks Nest/Tea Gardens area.
It also would create significant employment opportunities in construction and stimulate long-term jobs in the operation of the proposed residential and clubhouse facilities.
At its last meeting, Great Lakes Council decided to prepare a draft Local Environment Plan for the area.
It also resolved to advise Crownland that there is no guarantee that the extension of the golf course onto the rezoned area will be acceptable.
This could only be determined when studies associated with the broader Local Environment Study for North Hawks Nest are completed.
