Local students take to the stage

05 Dec, 2007 08:08 AM
Two local singers from the newly formed Albatross School of Contemporary Performance are reaching new heights as they complete their final stage four performance at the school.

Chris Bofinger (15) and Brooke Treacy (14) will be performing 10 songs each at an event at the Hawks Nest Golf Club on Thursday, December 20, from 7.30pm.

Over the past 18 months Brooke has competed the four stages; learning about singing techniques, stage craft and lighting and professionalism when singing.

“Brooke has worked really hard to get here,” teacher and Albatross School of Contemporary Performance owner Joanne Van der linden said.

“Some people are good at maths, but I am good at singing,” Brooke said.

“Music is in everyone, some people have more in them than others.

“Whatever you do in life, it doesn’t matter whether you sing or sew, you have music in you,” Brooke said.

Chris has been working at the school for the past 12 months and has completed a stage each term.

“Anyone can achieve whatever they put their mind to,” Chris said.

The performance will be the largest that either student has done.

Chris will play his guitar with a focus on 80s sounding music, while Brooke uses backing tracks as her accompaniment and sings popular pop music.

“Both have chosen very different genres of music,” Joanne said.

Brooke and Chris will be supported by Emily and Ben Van der linden and a group of local youth from around the area.

Over the past year Brooke and Chris have done a lot of performing; working their assessment performances in with events at Acito’s cafe in Hawks Nest, the soccer grand final and the Myall River Festival.

They are the first two students to work through the entire four stages and complete the course at the school.

Next year Chris will attend the School of Performing Arts in Broadmeadow.

Tickets for the performance are available at Acito’s cafe or by calling Joanne on 4997 1163. They will also be available at the door on the night.
