19 Dec, 2007 02:38 PM
A 31-year-old man was taken to John Hunter Hospital by Westpac helicopter after being bitten by a shark.

The man arrived at Tea Gardens Ambulance station around 11am on December 18.

He had been surfing along Jimmy's Beach near Yaccaba Headland when he was bitten by what he believes was a bull shark.

The man sustained a large 10cm horseshoe shape gash to his right buttock.

He was stabilised at Tea Gardens Ambulance station by Bulahdelah Ambulance officers before being transferred in a stable condition.

The man was visiting the area from Western Australia with friends.
