More police for school holidays

24 Oct, 2007 08:17 AM
As summer weather continues more people are coming to Tea Gardens Hawks Nest for their holidays, prompting residents to question the need for more police during holiday periods.

Over the school holidays the population increases dramatically and there are more incidences of unsocial and drunken behaviour.

Residents need to report this information to the police if anything is to be done about the behaviour.

If residents in Tea Gardens Hawks Nest report incidences and speak to their local government representative, then they are more likely to get more police in the towns during holiday times when crime increases.

“People need to make an effort, it’s the only way we are going to get extra police,” local resident, Tony Owens said.

If you need to report a non-urgent incident to the police, phone the Police Assistance Line on 13 14 44.

If the situation requires urgent attention then people should phone 000.

Both police officers in Tea Gardens are currently on leave, leaving the police station in Tea Gardens under-manned, on a full time basis.

“Police from Karuah, Raymond Terrace and highway patrol will be patrolling the area until something more permanent can be put in place,” Acting Inspector, Brad Elloy said.
