New chamber to take over the reins

New chamber to take over the reins

10 Jun, 2010 09:40 AM
NEW faces have been elected to the Myall Coast Chamber of Commerce committee, after the annual general meeting was held last week.

Colin Wheeler has taken on the role of president after moving to Hawks Nest in March this year to manage Hawks Nest Beach Caravan Park with his partner Natasha Brotherton.

The pair said they are both very community spirited and are focused on providing a service that benefits the community.

They said they are keen to see the businesses work in cooperation to not only showcase what the Myall Coast has to offer, but to provide excellent service to our local community members.

“For small communities to thrive, all businesses must support each other and events that pull people to the area. It is important that businesses refer visitors and locals to other businesses in town, rather then to larger retail stores out of the area.

“We need to ensure all our tourist areas, like Yaccaba, are looking and functioning well and that our friendliness and customer service that we all provide is at a competitive level,” Mr Wheeler said.

He said that customer service is the most important aspect of hospitality, tourism, and retail businesses.

“We want all visitors to the area to feel that they have received wonderful customer service throughout their entire stay, and are absolutely delighted with the product the Myall Coast provides.”

Mr Wheeler and Ms Brotherton have been slowly making changes and upgrades to the park, which has been around for over 40 years.

It is currently nominated for a CCIA (Camping and Camping Industry Award) and has also applied for the Environment Friendly Gumnut Award.

Mr Wheeler will be joined on the new committee by Clarrie Davison as vice-president, Hugo Elsterman from Hawks Nest News agency is interim treasurer until the position is assumed by Stewart Sinclair, manager of Oaks Boathouse.

Secretary is Brandan Cusak, licensee of Tea Gardens Hotel and Melinda McMahon will take on the role as membership secretary.

Mr Wheeler encouraged all business people to ‘bring their enthusiasm’ and come along to the next chamber meeting on July 6 at 6pm at the Hawks Nest Golf Club.
