New highway section

19 Sep, 2006 10:06 AM
ABIGROUP Contractors Pty Ltd has been awarded a contract for the design, construction and maintenance of sections two and three of the Karuah to Bulahdelah section of the Pacific Highway.

"This is 23 kilometres of new dual carriageway and it will include the construction of seven sets of small twin bridges," Paterson MP Bob Baldwin said.

"This particular section runs from one kilometre north of the Myall Way, to 3km south of Bulahdelah.

"Construction for this section is expected to start at the beginning of 2007."

Construction of section one of the Karuah to Bulahdelah upgrade, comprising of 11km of highway, is expected to be completed later this year.

Mr Baldwin said he welcomed the progression of the overall upgrade of the Pacific Highway to dual carriageway in his electorate but he said the need for a flyover at the Myall Way turnoff was the main priority.

"The State Government can forget bells and whistles from the Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens communities when they complete the Myall Way intersection later this year," Mr Baldwin said.

"They are still refusing to build a flyover or even acknowledge the fact that this is what the community wants.

"Fortunately we have received the support of the NSW Opposition for this project, through Peter Debman and Liberal candidate for Port Stephens Craig Baumann."
