AFTER working in the central west for a number of years Ray O’Brien still can’t believe Tea Gardens Hawks Nest is now his home.
Moving to the area in order to focus on his career Ray has taken the station officer position at Tea Gardens Ambulance Station.
“I am still pinching myself thinking that this is where home is,” Ray said.
Ray’s wife, daughter and grandson all made the move with him, making the area feel like home in an instance.
“It was a good move for the whole family.”
For the past five years Ray has been working in an operations centre but had trained as an ambulance life support officer.
“I am really keen to get back into the clinical side of the job,” Ray said.
Ray has worked in the service for 22 years. During that time he has experienced working as a single officer, working in larger 24 hour stations and also in the operations centre.
This new job was a “nice improvement” compared to his work in the centre.
“I am enjoying using my clinical skills on the road,” Ray said.
The ability to support patients until they arrive at the hospital was the reason Ray joined the service.
The staff at the station have helped Ray settle into his new job.
The old residence has also been converted into training rooms and study areas.
“We can make sure our skills are up to date,” Ray said.
While he is still finding his feet in the new position Ray said he is keen to get involved with the community.
He welcomes any groups interested in presentations and talks to get in contact with him.
