IT'S never too late to learn.
Seniors Week 2007 is drawing near and during this week, senior citizens will have the chance to learn how to master technology and surf the net.
Public Trustee NSW is sponsoring free TechnoSeniors computer classes at the Bulahdelah Community Technology Centre (CTC) and the Tea Gardens CTC on Tuesday to Thursday, March 13 to 15, from 10am to 3pm.
The classes are designed to cater for all levels of ability - from seniors wanting to refine their computer skills, to those who have never touched a computer before.
Public Trustee, Peter Whitehead, encourages people from the local area to book as soon as possible.
"Over the past few years, the classes have been incredibly popular with places booked up quickly, so I would recommend people reserve a spot as soon as they can.
"It's never too late to learn new skills. TechnoSeniors provides Bulahdelah and Tea Gardens seniors with a relaxed, secure and friendly environment to learn about the latest technology, and how it can help them in their everyday lives," Mr Whitehead said.
"Once seniors understand the basics and become more confident, the internet provides the opportunity for them to become more independent, especially when getting to the bank, shops or post office means being reliant on the help of others.
"With the click of a button daily tasks can be done online. It has never been a better time to learn about, and take advantage of the latest technology," he said.
Public Trustee NSW offers a number of online services for Bulahdelah and Tea Gardens seniors, making sure they have access to information about life planning - without leaving home.
The website is www.pt.nsw.gov.au
This website also has information for people wanting to free up their time, offering options to make sure they can enjoy their retirement stress-free, including "Active Assist", a service where Public Trustee can help manage financial affairs including paying bills like rates, taxes and health funds; manage investments and collect income, including pensions and dividends.
"Active Assist is a way of getting rid of the stress and bother of managing day-to-day financial affairs, leaving people with more time to get on with the things they want to do in their lives," Mr Whitehead said.
