Our whale welcomed at beach party

15 Jul, 2008 01:16 PM
CELEBRATIONS were held at Forster recently to recognise Great Lakes Council’s adopted whale, Worimi.

Year five students at St Joseph’s Primary School Bulahdelah picked the winning name during a competition earlier this year.

To thank them for choosing the name decision panel head Cr Linda Gill presented year two and three teacher Petrina Smith and teacher librarian Gritli Everingham with a book on the ocean for the school.

Worimi was adopted by council under the Humpback Icon Project last year but has gone without a name until now.

The naming day was celebrated with a sand modelling competition and the unveiling of a mural by local artists Donna Rankin and Mandy Davis.
