Overpass Task Force meet with Federal Roads Minister

20 Jun, 2006 11:54 AM
THREE local representatives of the Tea Gardens/Hawks Nest Overpass Task Force, Juergen Seil, Ed Bolehala and Patricia Michell, recently met with the Hon. Jim Lloyd, Federal Roads Minister and local member Bob Baldwin in Canberra.

Ms Michell stated that the Minister acknowledged the need for a safe overpass.

"He agreed with the task force representatives that it would make sense to include the overpass works in the next stage of the Karuah to Bulahdelah upgrade and undertook to write to the State Minister for Roads asking that consideration be given to including these works in the next stage," said Ms Michell.

"The Federal Government recently allocated an additional $160 million dollars for the Pacific Highway upgrade.

"It is interesting to note that earlier promises by the State Opposition that it would construct the overpass when elected have been confirmed by the Mayor of Port Stephens, Craig Baumann, in announcing he is standing for pre-selection for the seat of Port Stephens," she said.

Ms Michell said that the next step is to convince the State Minister, Hon. Eric Roozendaal, of the need for the overpass.
