PLANTS valuing $1200 were maliciously damaged at the Hawks Nest Caravan Park on Sunday evening, November 12.
Manager of the park, Karen Campbell, woke on Monday morning to find that 29 of her Blueberry Ash plants had been deliberately snapped at the base and were unable to be saved.
Ms Campbell had recently landscaped the front of the caravan park using the specially selected plants to enhance the entrance in time for the holiday season.
"The plants have been in the ground for a while, the root system had been established, they had started to flower and were looking great.
"After the damage I had to completely remove 29 plants and at the moment I am trying to salvage another seven.
"There is now not much point putting in more plants before Christmas so we will have to wait until next year to replant," she said.
Karen is currently studying horticulture at TAFE and was very disturbed by this senseless act.
"I don't have a lot of spare time to spend in my garden because of my TAFE studies and work commitments, so this is a lot of time and effort down the drain," she said.
Karen and her husband have been managing Hawks Nest Caravan Park for the past six years and although the park has been subjected to vandalism in the past, no crime has been committed there in quite a while, until this latest pointless act. The crime has been referred to local police who are investigating the incident further. If anyone has any information they are urged to contact Tea Gardens Police on 4997 0244.
