Photos on show for carers week

23 Oct, 2008 08:44 AM
MEMBERS of the Hawks Nest Tea Gardens Neighbour Aid service are inviting you to join them at a Photo Speak exhibition this week.

Held at the Tea Gardens Library until October 25, the exhibition will showcase photos taken by members of the Hawks Nest Tea Gardens Carers Support Group the Generalist Carers Support Group and the Dementia Carers Support Group.

The photos will be on display during carers week and illustrate the issues and emotions of the exceptional people in their caring role.

“There are 748,000 carers in NSW alone which is 11 per cent of the population.

Of these 149,700 are primary carers and it is widely known that carers are very vulnerable to stress related illnesses because of the demands of caring,” Great Lakes Neighbour Aid team leader Karen Burton said.

Carers support groups in the Great Lakes were initiated to meet some of the carers needs and to provide support and education through a monthly meeting.

For more information about the carers support group on the Myall Coast contact Linda Pyne on 4997 1143.
