TOYS, toys and more toys. The opening of the Myall Coast Toy Library next week is set to give children and their parents something new to play with.
Opening in Tea Gardens on Friday August 20, children from 0 – 5 years and their families will be able to borrow educational toys, games and puzzles, saving not only money, but contributing to the health and education of the family.
Run by a committee of volunteers, the not for profit Myall Coast Toy Library will be held at the Uniting Church Hall in Myall St, Tea Gardens, every Friday from 11-2pm during school term times.
President of the committee, Lissa Macilquham said a toy library can add fun and save dollars for families.
“As all parents know, quality toys are expensive and children can quickly become bored after a while,” she said.
“When a toy has been loved for a week or two, or lost its novelty, simply return it and get a different one to enjoy.”
Ms Macilquham suggested it is also an easy way to entertain visiting grandchildren, without the storage problems.
For an annual membership fee of $30 per family and $25 concession, toys can be borrowed for up to three weeks at a time, (payment can be cash or cheque).
Ms Macilquham said with the help of a start up grant from Inger Rice Foundation, and donations of quality toys from local families, there is already a large variety of toys to choose from.
Tea Gardens Country Club has also donated funding for outdoor play equipment.
“Often this type of resource is too costly for parents to buy, and also too bulky to have permanently around the home. So borrowing is a great alternative.
“We are most grateful to the Country Club for the opportunities this funding will give to participating local families,” Ms Macilquham said.
