Residents of Bulahdelah had an extra reason to be proud on Australia Day with local resident Loraine Rawson receiving the Great Lakes Citizen of the Year award in Forster.
Mrs Rawson received the award for her work within the Bulahdelah community.
“I was amazed when I was nominated and I was very proud to represent Bulahdelah within the nominees for the award,” Mrs Rawson said.
Mrs Rawson said she didn’t expect to receive the award and was shock when she was announced as the winner.
Mrs Rawson has been heavily involved within the community.
Some of her involvements include Guide leader, Scouts secretary and publicity officer, the progress association treasurer and secretary, volunteer work at Bulahdelah Central School for over 20 years, volunteer work at the Bulahdelah library for over 16 years and a representative on the local Anglican Parish Council.
Ten nominations for Great Lakes Citizen of the Year were received with Mrs Rawson being the only nominee from Bulahdelah.
Family and friends helped Mrs Rawson celebrate her achievement at the ceremony in Forster.
