Publication opens Gateway to Myall

05 Mar, 2010 10:05 AM
FOR the first time, a one-stop tourism booklet has been made available with essential information for visitors to Tea Gardens Hawks Nest.

Gateway to the Myall Coast is a compilation of comprehensive listings and locations and attempts to broaden the appeal of the area to holiday makers looking for a retreat with a difference.

Produced by the Tea Gardens CTC and Richard Beeman, in conjunction with NSW Government Industry and Investment, Great Lakes Tourism and Tourism NSW, the publication is a free, glossy, 34 page inclusive booklet that introduces the visitor and would-be visitor to the Myall Lakes region.

Gateway to the Myall Coast aims to provide visitors with all the information needed to gain maximum benefits from their stay, by improving the contact point for services and businesses and to explain what they have to offer, making a stay in the region uncomplicated and relaxing, encouraging them to come back again and again.

Included is information about accommodation, dining out, activities, shopping, retail, transport, tours, hire, churches, emergency services and an events calendar.

One visitor from Wollongong last week, Graeme Beckett, picked the booklet up from Tea Gardens Hotel Motel, where he was staying, and said it had been a bible.

“We have been here for a week and have absolutely lived by it.

“It has everything we wanted and it’s free,” Mr Beckett said.

Copies will be available through the Visitor Information Centre and the Tea Gardens CTC as well as the many business outlets throughout the town, serving as the first point of call for visitors.

Operator of Hawks Nest newsagency Hugo Elstermann said Gateway to the Myall Coast provided a comprehensive information guide and would assist in attracting visitors and holiday-makers to the area.

He added that the booklet complements previous information directories and publications, and would help promote the district.

Partner in Benchmark on Booner Kowan Wood said a publication that includes all businesses and activities is something the Hawks Nest Tea Gardens area has needed for a long time.

“This is indeed a step in the right direction, we were very excited about supporting the publication and feel sure it will benefit all those involved in the tourism business year round,” he said.

It is hoped that promotion of the booklet by Great Lakes Tourism will generate high interest interstate.

Col Robbins from the information centre thanked the volunteers at the CTC for assistance in producing the publication.

“It has made our job easier having one book of everything to reference,” Mr Robbins said.

The booklet has been in production for about six months and depending on the response, plans are already underway for the 2011 edition.
