Rain, hail or shine we remember

07 May, 2007 07:35 AM
Rain across the region didn't stop the citizens of Tea Gardens, Hawks Nest, Karuah, Bulahdelah and Stroud from remembering those who have fought and died for our country at Anzac Day celebrations last Wednesday.

While a number of marches were cancelled, the rain stopped long enough for veterans, school children and other members of the community to take to the streets in some towns.

Most of the memorial ceremonies were held indoors, however, with late comers left to fend for themselves in any dry area they could find.

The turn out for this year's event was as good as ever and fears that Anzac Day may be losing some of its meaning were well and truly quashed with the large number of children who chose to march and attend the memorial services afterwards. For the elder participants luncheons at various pubs and clubs followed remembrance ceremony's and the traditional Anzac game of two-up proved to be as popular as ever.
