ON November 1, nine members of the Myall Masters signed a contract, locking them into growing a moustache for the entire month.
The recent death of fellow master Rob Hodgson to prostate cancer had spurred the members into Movember action.
Raising money and awareness for the cause the men who had facial hair signed the contract to extend their mos or shave them off and start again, while those already clean shaven started growing.
During a masters training session on December 1, it was easy to see who was fighting for the Movember cause.
Rob Andrews had been growing his mo for the past 36 years but he shaved it off and started again for Movember, while fellow member Brad Jensen shaved his facial hair off at the end of the month. He had been growing a mo and beard for a number of years. Myall Masters trainer Leon Bobako said his new facial hair would be coming off very quickly but Mike Craven said, although he wanted it off at the start, he might keep his new mo until Christmas.
Mr Bobako said the large number of supporters meant there was not room for a shave off during the hair event on December 1.
“I am very happy with the result.
“It’s about getting people to do things they are not used to and that’s like the masters,” Mr Bobako said.
The hair event on December 1, left the theme wide open to see what members could come up with.
Individual trivia games to guess who belonged to which mo and pin the mo on the hippy celebrated the end of Movember for members. Throughout the month the group raised around $4500 towards the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and Beyondblue.
