Reserve Forces Day

11 Jul, 2006 09:03 AM
MARCHERS from as far afield as Penrith, Tuggerah and the Manning Valley joined their Hunter Valley counterparts in the annual Reserve Forces Day parade along the Newcastle foreshore.

About 50 military policemen from the United States, England and Canada added colour to the parade, which was held under sunny skies.

Colourful banners identified the service units and National Service sub-branches. Five bands were interspersed through the units.

A number of historic military vehicles followed the marchers.

Former Governor of NSW, Rear Admiral Peter Sinclair, was the reviewing officer and also gave the principal address at the celebration service held after the march.

Reserve Forces Day this year celebrated reservists who have served on overseas missions, the 90th anniversary of the Military Police and the 100th anniversary of the Australian Army Cadets.

The Hunter Region celebrations also celebrated the 90th anniversary of 14 Field Squadron Royal Australian Engineers and the 25th anniversary of 26 Squadron (City of Newcastle) RAAF Reserve.
