ON March 11, 12 and 13, kayak enthusiasts from all over the state took to the water around Jimmy's Beach in the annual event of the NSW Sea Kayak Club, their 'Rock n' Roll Weekend'.
This event was held in Hawks Nest last year and this year, and local resident, Mike Eggleton, was on the organising committee for both years.
Mr Eggleton said it was a very successful three days.
"The weekend is a fantastic learning curve as there are lots of training clinics.
"All the activities in the Club are voluntary and all instructors volunteer their time," he said.
"We had people from Canberra, Sydney and Wollongong travel here to attend this fabulous weekend."
The NSW Sea Kayak Club is the biggest Kayak Club in the country, and the Rock n' Roll Weekend involved three days of trips, training, talks and fun.
The 109 kayaks and their paddlers took part in the weekend festivities and explored the lakes, river, Cabbage Tree Island, Boondelbah Island, Fingal, and even went fish feeding at Flypoint.
Visitors booked out accommodation at Jimmy's Beach Caravan Park for the three days, and after their exciting adventures on the water throughout the day, there were opportunities to relax at night with slide shows and talks on worldwide trips that had been made by fellow kayak enthusiasts.
"Manufacturers bought their kayaks along for people to try out and there were also informative talks on navigations and GPS systems," added Mr Eggleton.
He explained that each year the Club would probably look at alternating the event down the coast between Batemans Bay and Hawks Nest.
"The Club in the last month has had an influx of members, and around 30 new members have joined us," he concluded.
